Photography Trends of 2013

  • Mobile Photography

The statistics state that over 250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook and over 40 million to Instagram every day from mobile devices.
  • Selfies

Speaking of which, 'selfie' was recently named by the Oxford English Dictionary as word of the year. Its use has increased by a staggering 17,000% in 2013.
  • Wi-Fi Enabled Cameras

Image are becoming more instantaneous. Even inserting your card into your computer is becoming a thing of the past. Wi-Fi in DSLRs is now commonplace.
  • No Optical Low Pass Filters

In a bid to obtain the ultimate in image sharpness, camera manufacturers are now ditching moire-reducing anti-aliasing filters left, right and center.
  • Big Sensor, Small Body

Sony mastered the art of squeezing big full-frame sensors into compact bodies with the 36.3 megapixel A7R mirrorless and the 24.0 megapixel RX1 compact.
  • Retro Styling

Certainly not new for 2013, but the retro styling trend is still strong. Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, Nikon and Pentax all launched retro-inspired new models.
